The Presidential Staff Excellence Awards
San Diego State University Staff Affairs Committee is proud to announce the annual Presidential Staff Excellence Awards. There will be a private award reception and public recognition at University Convocation in the fall along with additional recognition throughout the year as opportunities arise. These awards formally recognize and thank the staff who provide outstanding contributions and support to SDSU, the community and to their fellow employees. These awards honor the staff of SDSU in seven areas: Community Service, Service to the University, Staff-to-Staff Mentoring, Innovation, Collaboration, Manager of the Year, and Auxiliary Support.
Overall criteria for these awards categories are:
- Must be a staff employee of the San Diego State University (San Diego and/or Imperial Valley Campus)
- Must be a permanent, full-time staff
- Must be in good-standing with the University
- Must be employed with the University at the time of the award.
Following are examples of specific criteria for each of the staff award categories. These are only examples of what would qualify an individual or group for that particular category and are not meant as a comprehensive list.
Community Service
- Provided sustained service to the community
- Enhanced the image and goals of SDSU to the general public
Service to the University
- Provided sustained service to the University community-at-large
- Worked above and beyond normal responsibilities
- Showed high degree of involvement and commitment to the University
Staff-to-Staff Mentoring - within the department or cross-discipline
- Showed the ropes
- Encouraged staff to be involved
- Provided support to other staff
- Acted as a resource person
- Covered for others while they were out
Innovation
- Created new procedures
- Streamlined/expedited current service(s)
- Developed/implemented new technology
- Developed/implemented cost effective savings
Collaboration - within the department or cross-discipline
- A group that worked together to further the goals of SDSU
Manager of the Year (MPP)
- Nominated and selected by staff
- Single outstanding act or consistent behavior that ties with the mission and vision of the University
Auxiliary Support
- Provided outstanding service at a University activity or event
- Supported and/or enhanced products or services consistent with campus mission and goals.
